This course introduces locally advanced prostate cancer and provides an overview of the various treatment options.

Learning Objectives

When you have completed this module, you will be able to:

  • Define locally advanced prostate cancer in terms of the extent of spread and other pathological factors that indicate the risk of further spread.
  • Describe radical radiotherapy combined with hormone therapy (androgen deprivation) for locally advanced prostate cancer.
  • Describe radical prostatectomy for locally advanced prostate cancer, and why this might be followed by radical radiotherapy and/or possible hormone therapy.
  • Describe the management options that may be discussed with men who have locally advanced prostate cancer, who are unfit for radical radiotherapy or surgery, and/or men who choose not to have treatment.
  • Describe other systemic treatments that might be added to the radical radiotherapy with hormone therapy regimen or used alongside hormone therapy alone.
