Clinical consensus statements have been developed for use alongside the NICE guideline, to help you deliver best practice

Best practice in active surveillance for men with prostate cancer: a Prostate Cancer UK consensus statement was commissioned by Prostate Cancer UK to:

To achieve this, a set of consensus statements on the best practice for active surveillance, incorporating mpMRI, were developed by an expert reference group (ERG) panel (comprising clinicians, patients and prostate cancer experts) and
based on:

  • national and international guidelines from the UK, Europe, Canada and the USA (discovered by systematic literature review)
  • protocols used by over 90% of UK urology departments (discovered using the Freedom of Information request
    previously described)
  • surveys from 744 men with localised prostate cancer (questionnaire distributed via social media, support groups and invitation)
  • 20 interviews with patients and healthcare professionals (either face-to-face or by telephone).
