Liz Hetherington, a qualitative researcher, also spoke at the BAUS Annual Scientific Meeting 2018 and discussed findings on the experiences of men faced with choosing active surveillance or radical treatment.

Dr Hetherington undertook 20 interviews to understand men’s and clinician’s views on active surveillance and the key results of the ProtecT trial to explore and understand:

  • Men's diagnosis experience;
  • How men are supported through treatment decision-making;
  • Men's understanding of active surveillance; and
  • The unmet needs of men when it comes to active surveillance.
