Stewarts O’Callagham, CEO at OUTpatients, Alison Berner, Academic Clinical Lecturer at the Barts Cancer Institute, and Lloyd Young, a patient with lived experience, come together to discuss the nuanced considerations in prostate cancer care for LGBTQI+ patients in this enlightening session. Aimed at healthcare professionals, this session provides essential insights and practical strategies to ensure inclusive and competent care for transgender and gender diverse individuals affected by prostate cancer.

The session begins by clarifying the terminology surrounding transgender and gender diverse identities in the context of prostate cancer care. Speakers clarify key terms and concepts essential for understanding and respecting diverse gender identities within the clinical setting.

Attendees will explore gender-affirming care practices tailored specifically for transgender and non-binary individuals with prostate cancer. The session highlights approaches to patient-centred care that respect and support the unique needs and preferences of LGBTQI+ patients throughout their cancer journey.

Moreover, speakers discuss considerations for hormone therapy, surgical interventions, and other medical treatments, addressing how these options can be tailored to meet the needs of transgender and gender diverse individuals.

Throughout the discussion, the lived experiences of LGBTQI+ individuals in prostate cancer care are shared, shedding light on the unique challenges and barriers they face. The session aims to foster understanding among healthcare providers, encouraging an inclusive approach to care delivery.

By the end of the session, participants will gain a deeper understanding of the complexities involved in providing effective care to LGBTQI+ prostate cancer patients.
