Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men in the UK. Around 1 in 8 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer during their lifetime, rising to approximately 1 in 4 Black men. Significant inequalities persist in awareness, access to assessment, diagnosis, treatment and outcomes, with Black men more likely to develop prostate cancer at a younger age and at a higher risk than other population groups. Improving early detection and ensuring equitable access to care are therefore essential priorities for healthcare professionals.

This webinar will provide a practical update on the early detection of prostate cancer, with a particular focus on improving Black health equity and supporting primary care teams to identify and manage risk effectively. By watching, you will enhance your understanding of prostate cancer risk, early detection strategies, and the actions needed to address inequalities and improve outcomes for men across the West Midlands.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this webinar, participants will be better able to:

  • Key risk factors for prostate cancer and the importance of recognising individuals at increased risk.
  • Health inequalities in prostate cancer diagnosis, treatment and outcomes across the UK and within the West Midlands.
  • Current evidence and the latest recommendations from the UK National Screening Committee.
  • Real-world case studies that demonstrate the challenges and opportunities in improving prostate cancer detection and equitable care.
