In this session, Philippa Aslet, Director of Nursing at St Michaels Hospice North Hampshire, and Ann Graham, a volunteer at Prostate Cancer UK, engage in a crucial discussion about living and dying well with prostate cancer. This session delves into sensitive topics to help healthcare professionals and caregivers navigate the complexities of prostate cancer care and support.

Ann and Philippa explore the narrative and expectations often set for prostate cancer patients, encouraging reflection on how these perceptions influence patient experiences. They provide actionable steps for enhancing both daily living and end-of-life care practices, emphasising the importance of holistic support through multidisciplinary team (MDT) discussions, shared decision-making with patients, and managing expectations to avoid false hopes.

Participants will gain insights into managing expectations for patients and their families, learning practical strategies to provide compassionate and effective care throughout the cancer journey. This session equips healthcare professionals and caregivers with valuable knowledge and tools to improve the quality of life and support offered to those affected by prostate cancer.

This discussion is essential for anyone involved in prostate cancer care, seeking to deepen their understanding and skills in providing empathetic and comprehensive care for patients and their families.
