Robin Porter

Prostate Cancer Patient with lived experience of Active Surveillance

In 2006, after being diagnosed with prostate cancer, Robin began active surveillance at the Royal Marsden Hospital. In 2019, following changes in his cancer, he opted for High-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) and underwent a second course in 2022, now on six-monthly monitoring. His 17-year journey has involved the emotional challenges of scans and consultations, with significant advances in surveillance techniques providing more certainty but still some uncertainty about his treatment choices.

Anthony Francis

Prostate Cancer Patient with lived experience of Active Surveillance

In 2019, after a referral to a consultant urologist, Anthony was diagnosed with prostate cancer and began active surveillance with regular six-month PSA tests. Over four years, he had two MRI scans and two biopsies, and following the second biopsy, he chose to undergo brachytherapy in 2023. This treatment has been successful, with his PSA levels now approaching zero.
