Communicating the consequences of low and intermediate risk prostate cancer

Following completion of this module, you should be able to:

  1. Identify the key principles of effective risk communication about localised prostate cancer and its treatment.
  2. Recognise the implications of commonly held beliefs about cancer progression for patients’ understanding of a prostate cancer diagnosis.
  3. Distinguish between communication that can counter and communication that can reinforce inaccurate perceptions of the risk of cancer progression.
  4. Recognise the implications of the sequence of information delivery for patients' perceptions of risk and benefits of treatment
  5. Recognise how gaps in patients’ understanding of consequences of treatments for low and intermediate risk prostate cancer can be avoided.
